Marketa Kemp, Melbourne artist

"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider's web."

                                                      - Pablo Picasso

Marketa Kemp is a Melbourne based artist, born in Prague (Czech Republic), now living permanently in Melbourne.

Although primarily self taught she has studied with and learned from various artist in Australia and overseas, including The Aegean Center for the Fine Arts in Greece and Australian artist Wayne Viney who introduced her to printmaking in 2017. Printmaking, monotype in particular, has quickly become Marketa’s passion. She is drawn to the unique quality of the mono (one off) print and the level of random imperfection, unpredictability and surprise the process presents.

Over the recent years Marketa has been a finalist in several art awards including the inaugural Megalo International Print Prize in Canberra and has had her work shown as part of group exhibitions in galleries around Melbourne.

Marketa finds inspiration in landscapes that have left a deep impression in her, places rich in atmosphere, hidden life and mystery.

Her art aims to make the viewer feel something, to evoke emotion whether it be happiness, melancholy, reflection or distant memory.

Marketa is represented by Queenscliff Gallery, PG Gallery and Mesh Art Gallery (USA).
